Boardrooms make some of the most influential decisions in the country, but do they reflect society and understand intergenerational challenges, which have been exacerbated by COVID-19?
In this session we will hear from James McMillan, NED and Chair of the Audit Committee at Stockport Credit Union. James is one of the youngest people to win the Institute of Director's Director of the Year Award and will share insights into how young professionals can take to secure their first NED role.
Our second panellist is Mark Freebairn, a Partner and Head of the Board Practice, and Financial Management Practice of executive search firm Odgers Berndtson. He has seven years of experience as a Non-Executive Director on the Board of GlobalData plc, and also sits on the Remuneration Committee for the ICAEW.

James is Non-Executive Director and Chair of the Audit Committee for Stockport Credit Union, and co-founder and CEO of joinmynexus.com a smart-matching system for early-stage entrepreneur investment. In 2020 he became one of the youngest ever winners of the IoD Director of the Year, in the Non-Executive category.
Mark is a Partner and Head of the Board Practice and Financial Management Practice of Odgers Berndtson. Seven years of experience as a Non-Executive Director on the Board of GlobalData has given him insight into the inner workings of a plc board. He also sits on the Remuneration Committee for the ICAEW.
Julia runs ICAEW’s Corporate Governance Community, covering the most pressing issues affecting boards, and works with members who hold or aspire to hold executive or non-executive director roles. She engages with members to understand their business and regulatory challenges and ensures their views are at the heart of ICAEW’s policymaking.
